It was just recently revealed that media giants Disney and Sony will be entering into a new deal. Disney has acquired the streaming and television rights to many of Sony’s future movies and many movies in that currently in their existing library. Sony movies will be streaming on Disney’s own streaming service Disney+ and Disney’s television channels.
According to Collider and The Hollywood Reporter this new deal means that Sony’s Spider-Man movies including Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
The deal has also granted Disney access to Sony movie franchises like Hotel Transylvania and Jumanji, as well as upcoming projects like Morbius, Uncharted, Bullet Train and the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
The deal will cover Sony movie’s receiving theatrical releases starting in the year 2022 and up to the year 2026. More information on the deal can be found on Sony’s official website.
The President of Sony Keith Le Goy has been quoted as saying, “This landmark multi-year, platform-agnostic agreement guarantees the team at Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution a tremendous amount of flexibility and breadth of programming possibilities to leverage Sony’s rich slate of award-winning action and family films across our direct-to-consumer services and linear channels,” said Chuck Saftler, head of business operations for ABC, Freeform, FX Networks and Acquisitions for Disney’s Media and Entertainment Distribution. “This is a win for fans, who will benefit from the ability to access the very best content from two of Hollywood’s most prolific studios across a multitude of viewing platforms and experiences.”
