Variety broke yesterday that actor, conceptual artist, and “actual cannibal” Shia LaBeouf (Transformers franchise, American Honey, Fury) has found his newest cinematic acting role in the action-adventure indie drama, The Peanut Butter Falcon.
Written and directed by the team of Tyler Nilson and Scrubs producer/writer Mike Schwartz, The Peanut Butter Falcon follows a youth with Down syndrome named Zak as he runs away from his home to pursue his lifelong dream of attending the Saltwater Redneck school of wrestling to become a world famous professional wrestler. While on his quest, Zak meets a small-time crook (LaBeouf) who becomes his unlikely friend and wrestling coach. Labeouf has proven himself in the past to portray a strong motivator…
Art house production company Lucky Treehouse Pictures, which helped make director Nilson’s short The Moped Diaries, is producing the film, which Variety says will likely be sold at the Cannes Film Festival this May.
LaBeouf’s last role on the silver screen was 2016’s American Honey which also debuted at Cannes, and earned LaBeouf high critical praise. For his next role, he will portray John McEnroe in the 2017 tennis drama biopic Borg/McEnroe.
