The wait is over for The Hunger Games fans as the first teaser trailer for the franchise’s final installment, Mockingjay – Part 2, has finally hit the internet. The footage is action-packed and promises an emotionally harrowing last ride.
To recap, Part 2 will pick up right as Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) has assumed her permanent role as the leader and symbol of District 13’s rebellion against the Capitol, in the form of the Mockingjay. She, along with her friends, family, and fellow Panem citizens will take up arms and actually enter the field of battle for an all-out war and revolution.
The trailer reveals many ways in which the last film will be bringing the novels’ story full circle to create a cathartic ending to the series. Some particularly nostalgic lines of dialogue begin when Boggs (Mahershala Ali) hints to Katniss about adding “more fire to this rebellion,” signaling back to the first film, when Katniss became “The Girl on Fire.” Next, Katniss’s big speech, which overlays the teaser, tells the rebels to “turn your weapons to the Capitol.” As opposed to turning their weapons on each other, which they had been forced to do throughout the years within The Hunger Games arena, their final violent act will be aimed at the perpetrators of this violence. As Finnick (Sam Claflin) fittingly declares in the trailer’s final moments, “ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the 76th Hunger Games,” the story is primed to come to an exciting conclusion.
The series will also return with director Francis Lawrence as well as actors Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Julianne Moore, Donald Sutherland, Stanley Tucci, and more.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 opens in theaters on November 20th.
