On Sunday morning, Tom Sizemore’s spokesperson Charles Lago told CNN, “Sizemore is in critical condition and is in a “wait and see situation…His family is aware and waiting for updates.” Lago continued. “There is no further update at this time.” Sizemore, a 61-year-old actor from Detroit, Michigan, acted in several hit crime and war films in the 90s and 2000s, including Heat, Natural Born Killers, True Romance, Born on The Fourth Of July, Pearl Harbor, and Black Hawk Down.
Often cast as a gruff, no-nonsense, tough guy, he is best known for playing Sgt. Mike Horvath in the World War II epic Saving Private Ryan. Those who remember the film may recall that Sgt. Hovrath delivered the line that contained the title of the film; “Some day we might look back on this and decide that saving Private Ryan was the one decent thing we were able to pull out of this godawful s***ty mess.” Saving Private Ryan, which famously starred Tom Hanks, garnered four Academy Awards, including best director, with an additional six nominations, including best picture, during the 1999 ceremony.
Sizemore was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 2000 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television for his role as Bobby Batton in Witness Protection. More recently, he appeared in Twin Peaks and Cobra Kai episodes.
Sizemore has long struggled with drug addiction and had many legal issues during his career. He was convicted in 2003 on domestic violence charges from a relationship with his former fiancee Heidi Fleiss. He told Larry King in a 2010 interview he had struggled with an addiction to cocaine, heroin, and meth. He notably participated in the 2010 season of the reality show “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.”
