British actress Rosamund Pike (Barney’s Version, Jack Reacher) has landed the title role in David Fincher’s upcoming thriller Gone Girl. She will co-star with Ben Affleck, who is already set to play her husband. The story centers around Amy Dunne (Pike), who goes missing on her fifth wedding anniversary leaving her husband Nick (Affleck) as the primary suspect.
This film is based on the New York Times Best Selling novel by Gillian Flynn, who is also writing the screenplay. The novel employs flashbacks and journals, often narrating from the point of view of one of the main characters, to create suspense while leaving the reader unclear as to Nick’s guilt or innocence. It will be interesting to see how Fincher and Flynn are able to translate this style to the screen.
Pike, who landed her first big role as Bond girl Miranda Frost in 2002’s Die Another Day, was selected for the role out of a pool of some of the best female talent in Hollywood, including Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt, Olivia Wilde and Abbie Cornish.
Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry are also being considered for roles in the film.
Gone Girl will be produced by Reese Witherspoon, Bruna Papandrea and Leslie Dixon for their company Pacific Standard. Filming is set to begin in September.
