Ridley Scott‘s upcoming true crime biopic about the assassination of fashion mogul Maurizio Gucci have already made flashy headlines, with Lady Gaga on board to portray Patrizia Reggiani, Gucci’s ex-wife. Sources confirm an even larger and impressive cast is currently being assembled to soon star in the highly anticipated drama.
Currently, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Adam Driver, and Jared Leto are in talks for roles in MGM’s project, along with Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire) and Reeve Carney (Tony award-winning musical Hadestown), according to Deadline. It’s a talented diverse cast, from seasoned actors of classic movies, up and coming actors in big budget modern movies, television actors, to a Broadway performer.
And of course, we have singer-songwriter Lady Gaga, who will star in her first film project after her Best Actress nomination in 2018’s hit musical film A Star Is Born alongside Bradley Cooper. In Gucci, Lady Gaga will have a big role in the dramatic life of the Gucci family, playing the ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci who was tried and convicted of orchestrating her his assassination on the steps of his office in 1995. She served 18 years in jail before being let out in 2016.
This movie is adapted from the book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara Gay Forden. Roberto Bentivegna adapted the script, and the film will be produced by Scott with Scott Free Productions, Giannina Scott, and Kevin Walsh.
Scott is currently shooting the period drama The Last Duel, which will finally go into production next week. MGM landed the rights to Gucci back in April with plans to go into production after Scott finished shooting The Last Duel.
