‘Ready Player One’ Receives First Trailer, Showing Us The Best Pop Culture Film of A Lifetime

Video games are the newest form of cross-breed entertainment, only being around for less than a century and truly becoming huge in the 1970’s. Regardless of its origin, it is also the fastest growing entertainment industry, with games being released almost daily. With such amazing growth, Ernest Cline decided to write Ready Player One, which has quickly become one of the most well-known video game based books of this century. The book has officially received a film license, and we have been provided a trailer courtesy of Comic-Con 2017. The first footage looks incredibly ambitious and features well-known larger than life characters like the Iron Giant.

Ready Player One focuses on a world in 2045 on the brink of collapse, but people find solace in an online world called OASIS. The owner of the world perishes, but leaves a will stating that if anyone can find the hidden easter egg in the online world, that person wins his entire fortune. Wade Watts, our protagonist, joins the hunt and goes on a crazy journey through the world to find the easter egg.

Watts is being played by Tye Sheridan (The Tree of Life, X-Men: Apocalypse) with an amazing supporting cast consisting of T.J. Miller (Deadpool, Big Hero 6), Olivia Cooke (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, Bates Motel), Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One, The Dark Knight Rises), and Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead). The film is being directed by legendary director Steven Spielberg (Saving Private Ryan, Schindler’s List) with a script from Zak Penn (The Avengers, The Incredible Hulk) and Cline. The film currently has a release date for March 30, 2018, and we are very excited where the film will take us in the world of OASIS.
