Kill the Messenger, which already boasts an impressive cast, has just gained more star power with the addition of Ray Liotta (Killing Them Softly, The Place Beyond the Pines). Liotta will join Jeremy Renner, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Paz Vega, Rosemarie DeWitt and Barry Pepper among others in the tragic story of journalist Gary Webb.
As we’ve mentioned previously, Kill the Messenger will focus on the events after Webb’s investigation and subsequent articles incriminating the CIA of funding Contra rebels in Nicaragua by facilitating the import of cocaine into the U.S. in the 80’s. The backlash from Webb’s articles eventually led to his suicide in 2004. Liotta will play a retired CIA agent and the primary source of Webb’s investigation.
Liotta most recently played a supporting role in crime thriller The Iceman, and is upcoming Muppets Most Wanted.
Kill the Messenger has already started filming under the direction of Michael Cuesta and will be released in 2014.
