Prehistoric Shark Movie ‘Meg’ Has its Eye On Li Bingbing

The prehistoric shark known as the Megalodon will make it’s big screen debut March 2018 and in the meantime, Warner Bros. is searching for bait.

Li Bingbing is in talks to join the already stacked cast of this massive blockbuster after Fan Bingbing’s departure due to scheduling issues. Jason Statham, Jessica McNamee, and Ruby Rose are already set to star and most recently Rainn Wilson (TV’s The Office) has also joined the cast.

Based on the previously released novel by Steve Alten, MEG: A Novel of Deep Terror, in which an ancient Megalodon is discovered to have survived deep within Mariana Trench due to a cold water barrier. The film Meg follows a disabled submersible and its crew who are trapped at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. Helpless, they fall under attack by the prehistoric beast and are in need of help. Statham, a former naval captain, and soul survivor from a previous Megalodon attack, is recruited to lead a rescue mission.

Jon Turteltaub (National Treasure) will direct the film. Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, Belle Avery and Colin Wilson are producing. Executive producers are Wei Wayne Jiang, Barrie M. Osborne, Randy Greenberg and Gerald R. Molen.

Li Bingbing has had much success in American cinema. Her credits include Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, Resident Evil: Retribution, and Transformers: Age of Extinction.
