October Box Office Record Broken After Release of ‘Venom’

It was a weekend for the box office history books after the release of multiple, big-name films. The record win, though, goes to Sony‘s  much anticipated antihero film Venom. The film’s release toppled the previously standing record for box office sales by $20 million dollars, totaling to an $80 million opening weekend win.

Coming closest to Venom’s massive numbers is the also highly anticipated A Star is Born starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper which came out to an impressive $41.25 million. Both of these sum totals of opening weekend sales combined landed a record for the biggest October opening weekend of all time.

There may be issues for Venom’s popularity in the near future, though, since the film has had a massive sum of negative reviews from multiple, popular movie-reviewing sites. It currently sits with the same initial ratings of the badly reviewed Suicide Squad and Justice League.

Other films making a splash in this past weekend’s sales include Smallfoot at $14.9 million ten days after its release, Night School at $12.275 million in its second weekend, and The House with Clock in Its Walls with $7.3 million in its third weekend.
