New Line Cinema is in the process of acquiring the rights to the biographical comedy The Disaster Artist starring James and Dave Franco.
The film follows the making of the notorious cult classic The Room, a film by Tommy Wisseau. Many regard the film as the worst ever made, which helps fuel its popularity. Theaters across the country still hold screenings of the 2003 drama, equipped with fan participation. The Disaster Artist is based on the award-winning 2013 book of the same name, written by Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell, who were both involved in the original film.
Along with playing the role of Wisseau, James Franco will direct the script written by The Spectacular Now screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. Dave Franco will be alongside his brother playing Sestero and Seth Rogen is also on board as producer as well as acting in an unspecified role. This will mark one of two upcoming films, along with Zeroville, in which both Franco brothers and Rogen will star in together.
The project is slated to begin shooting in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area this December.
