As the film heads to the American Film Market, A24’s Elden Ring is said to be the most expensive film to go to market. The upcoming video game adaptation, written and directed by Alex Garland, is said to have a budget of around $175 to $200 million, putting it above several other films and making it the most expensive to reach this record. These include the latest Hunger Games film, Sunrise on the Reaping, and the upcoming Passion of the Christ Sequel, Resurrection of the Christ. The latter film is being split into two movies and has an estimated combined budget of close to $200 million between the two films. The budget also makes it A24’s most expensive film to date.
The film is currently in post-production and is being shopped around international markets for distribution in several territories. And according to Deadline, the first studio to approach for international distribution is Amazon MGM Studios, which has already purchased exclusive day-one streaming rights in several international markets.
The Elden Ring movie is based on the video game of the same name developed by FromSoftware. The cast consists of Kit Connor, Ben Whishaw, Cailee Spaeny, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, Ruby Cruz and Nick Offerman. The A-list cast is matched with an A-list crew, including Oscar-winning Costume Designer Jenny Beaven, Oscar-nominated hair and makeup designer Paul Gooch, and BAFTA Award-winning production design and set decoration by Mark Digby and Michelle Day.
A24’s Elden Ring is currently slated to release in May of 2028. The release is planned for both standard and IMAX theaters.
