Burns & Co. Entertainment and Fathom Entertainment have moved up early theatrical access for Jimmy, the biographical drama chronicling silver-screen icon Jimmy Stewart’s military service during World War II and his path toward filming It’s a Wonderful Life. Special early-access screenings will run in limited theaters nationwide on Sunday, November 1, 2026, ahead of the film’s wide nationwide theatrical bow on Friday, November 6.
Directed by Aaron Burns (Beyond the Mask) from a screenplay by Justin Strawhand, the feature stars KJ Apa (Riverdale) in the titular role as Stewart. The narrative explores the pivotal transitional period of Stewart’s career, following him from his 1941 Academy Award win for The Philadelphia Story through his voluntary enlistment in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Stewart rose to the rank of colonel while flying 20 high-risk combat missions over Europe as a B-24 Liberator squadron commander, later returning to a transformed Hollywood landscape grappling with severe combat trauma before Frank Capra pitched him on playing George Bailey.
The project enters theatrical distribution bolstered by an acclaimed festival trajectory, having secured Best Feature honors at the Washington West Film Festival, the Spotlight Award for Apa at the Newport Beach Film Festival, and tying with I Play Rocky for the Audience Choice Award at the Heartland International Film Festival. To mark the theatrical rollout, Burns & Co. and Fathom launched a promotional initiative alongside military charity Vet Tix, which has already distributed over $1 million in complimentary admission vouchers to veterans, first responders, and their families.
The ensemble cast features Max Casella as Frank Capra, Jason Alexander as MGM mogul Louis B. Mayer, Sarah Drew as gossip columnist Hedda Hopper, Christopher McDonald as Lionel Barrymore, Neal McDonough as Stewart’s father Alexander, Rob Riggle as Col. Terrill, and Kara Killmer as Lady Julia, alongside Julian Works and Jen Lilley.
