Never-Before-Seen Clip Shown at Live ‘Hungers Games’ Q&A

Lionsgate and Fandango hosted a live Q&A with the cast of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 tonight. Cast members in attendance included Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Natalie Dormer, Julianne Moore, Donald Sutherland, Sam Claffin, Jeffrey Wright, and Willow Shields, as well as director Francis Lawrence and producer Nina Jacobson.

Fans submitted their questions via social media. One asked Moore to explain the motives of her character, President Coin, in the film.

In the book she was rendered in a very slender way from Katniss’ point of view and Francis (Lawrence) talked about giving her a political evolution…I think she’s always feeling like she always wants to do the best she can for the people in District 13 and for the nation as a whole but maybe where she gets at the end is not the most altruistic place.”

The details of Moore’s character have been a well-kept secret to those who didn’t read the books, until now.

Fans were also treated to a never-before-seen clip from the film that opens on Friday. The clip shows Katniss and some other rebels taking cover in a war-torn building during a bombing from the capital. Katniss witnesses some rebels die in the bombing. Director Francis Lawrence emphasized the importance of the scene as, “the first time Katniss actually starts to fight back.” You can watch the clip below.

Be sure to check out the other clip shown during Natalie Dormer’s Reddit AMA and more details about the film in Francis Lawrence’s Twitter fan event.
