Neill Blomkamp’s Terrifying ‘Demonic’ Teaser Trailer Released

Demonic, written and directed by Neill Blomkamp, released its teaser trailer just yesterday. Not much about the film has been revealed from this look, but the quick cuts and frightening imagery live up to its name.

The film will star Carly Pope, who has also been in Blomkamp’s 2013 Elysium. The teaser shows Pope entering a virtual reality world. Shots transition between one another in a jarring way, showing disturbing images of cuts appearing on an arm, what looks like a demon in a closet, and a lot of fire. The official synopsis for the film describes that “a young woman unleashes terrifying demons when supernatural forces at the root of a decades old rift between mother and daughter are revealed.”

Demonic also stars Chris William Martin, Michael Rogers, and Nathalie Boltt. It is Blomkamp’s first film since his 2015’s Chappie. He is best known for his debut, 2009’s District 9, which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay, and the film was also nominated for Best Picture.

Blomkamp’s upcoming work looks to be a shift from the previous sci-films he’s known for. Demonic could be the low-budget horror movie that takes audiences by surprise amidst a summer packed with bigger-name horror releases, like A Quiet Place Part II and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.

Demonic will be in theaters, on-demand, and digital on August 20. Check out the teaser below!
