Marvel Considering Michelle Yeoh to Star in ‘Shang-Chi’

A while back, it was announced that amongst Marvel’s Phase 4 lineup was film called Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which would feature a primarily Asian cast. So far the studio has revealed the names of several cast members including Hong Kong actor Simu Liu as the titular Shang, Tony Leung as the Mandarin, and Awkwafina in an unnamed role. However, according to ScreenRant, Marvel is now considering adding Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh to the movie’s cast. To American audiences, Yeoh ois well known for her roles in hit films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Crazy Rich Asians, as well as her recurring role on Star Trek: Discovery.

As of right now, it’s unknown on what exact role Marvel is considering Yeoh for. Yeoh has already made an appearance in a Marvel movie before, cameoing in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as one of Yondu’s Ravager colleagues Aleta Ogord. However, according to Comic Book Yeoh would be playing a completely different character should she be cast in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and is set to release in the winter of 2021.
