Netflix Announces Plans for Animated ‘Witcher’ Movie, Following TV Show’s Success

The Witcher TV show adaptation has been on Netflix for roughly a month now and has proven to be very popular, receiving positive reviews from critics and a second season set to be in the works. Now, according to Collider, the popularity of The Witcher has led to Netflix’s decision to create an animated movie based on the titular book lore.

i09 reports that movie, which will be titled The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, is being created by Korean animation studio Studio Mir. Netflix has worked with Studio Mir in the past, most notably on the production of their original series Voltron: Legendary Defender. At this time not much is know about The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. It is unknown what exactly the movie’s plot will be about or if it will have any connection to the live action series. It also has not been confirmed if the cast of the live action Netflix series will be reprising their roles in the movie.

The Witcher series is of course based on Polish author author Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy novel series of the same name. Spakowski’s books were then adapted into a popular video game series, with the third entry The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt being regarded as one of the best games of the 2010’s.
