‘Lady Bird’ Takes Best Picture at New York Film Critics Circle

The ballots are in for one of the first award offerings of the season and Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird has taken both best picture and best actress for Saoirse Ronan at the New York Film Critics Circle. Ronan plays Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson, an artistic 17 year old high school senior who has dreams of her own to leave the sheltered confines of Sacramento to venture to new territories. Her mother,  Marion, played by Laurie Metcalf, refuses to let go and through tough love tries to keep Lady Bird from flying away.

Other winners announced via a live Twitter feed include Sean Baker for Best Director and Willem Dafoe for Supporting Actor on the film The Florida Project, best screen play for Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread, Best Actor for Timothée Chalamet in Call Me by Your Name, Best Supporting Actress Tiffany Haddish for Girls Trip and Best Animated Feature for Coco.

The annual Gala Awards dinner for the winners will be held on Wednesday January 3, 2018 in dedication of Richard Schickel.
