Bohemian Rhapsody, the new biopic film that will focus on Queen and specifically Freddie Mercury, has officially halted production for the time being. The announcement came recently after Bryan Singer, the director of the film, left the set, stating that he had personal health issue that surrounded him and his family and that needed to be dealt with before continuing with the film. Previously, Fox had provided the news to the public stating the film stopped production because of “the unexpected unavailability of Singer,” according to Deadline.
Bohemian Rhapsody will focus on a 15-year period which will begin with the formation of Queen and end with their performance at Live Aid in 1985, which preceded Freddie Mercury’s death by 6 years. The film has a fairly renowned cast, including Rami Malek (Mr Robot) as Mercury, Ben Hardy (X-Men: Apocalypse) as drummer Roger Taylor, Gwilym Lee (The Tourist) as guitarist Brian May, and Joseph Mazzello (The Social Network) as bassist John Deacon.
Filming, according to Singer’s representatives, hopes to continue after the holiday season. Fox and the production team still look to have the film released on Christmas of next year, which is still a plausible feat. According to rumors at Deadline, though, it is being said that Fox has been searching for a possible replacement of Singer, even though the film is presumably two weeks away from completing principal photography.
