La Bola Negra (The Black Ball), directed by Javier Calvo (Veneno) and Javier Ambrossi (Veneno)will be coming to theaters November 6th. La Bola Negra was originally shown at the 2026 Cannes Festival, where it received a 20 minute standing ovation. After its premiere, Netflix acquired the distribution rights and gave it a theatrical release window before it is available to stream  on their platform on December 4th.

In a press release Calvo and Ambrossi stated, “We couldn’t imagine a better home than Netflix to bring this story to audiences across the United States. We are deeply grateful and excited that its message will reach millions of viewers and help carry Federico García Lorca’s legacy to audiences around the world.”

The movie centers on three different stories set in the years 1930, 1937 and 2017. During the presentation of the film, Ambrossi said, “It speaks of what it’s like to be gay in those three periods, about heritage, and about being human. It’s about reclaiming our history from perspectives that haven’t been told. Queer identity doesn’t speak to our past.”

Each story follows a different characters experience with Queer identity. One story follows a young man trying to join a casino club, a romance set during the Spanish Civil War, and a more modern story of a historian discovering the history of Queer music. The movie stars Spanish Musician Alvaro Lafuente Calvo (Guitarricadelfuente), Miguel Bernardeu (Querer), Penelope Cruz (Volver) and Julio Torres (Problemista).
