Surprising viewers and critics alike, the success of 2014’s Kingsman: The Secret Service has now attracted big name for its sequel. It has been reported that Oscar winner Julianne Moore (Still Alice) has been in talks to star as the lead villain with Taron Egerton (Legend, Eddie the Eagle) reprising his protagonist role.
20th Century Fox was pleased at the outcome of the first film which raked in $128.3 million domestically and $414.4 million worldwide on an $81 million dollar budget. The plot was adapted from the comic book series The Secret Service created by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons.
Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: First Class, Kick-Ass) has not been confirmed to return to the director’s chair for the unnamed sequel.
Moore was last seen on the big screen in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 last fall in which she also played somewhat villainous role. She will soon begin filming on George Clooney‘s Suburbicon, and Todd Haynes‘ Wonderstruck.
The film already has a set release date on June 16, 2017.
