Kevin Costner Returns to Directing in Warner Bros and New Line Film: ‘Horizon’

Costner in Yellowstone

Kevin Costner is no stranger to working on big projects when it comes to the Old West. The Dances with Wolves director and Yellowstone star and co-producer will direct Horizon, a new pre-and post-Civil War film. The 15-year story will dive into the expansion and settlement of the West. The journey will be shown through the eyes of many and will showcase hardships of facing the natural elements and interactions with Indigenous people who lived on the land, as well as the willpower of those who wanted to settle on the already claimed land.mWorking together in 2015 for bestselling novel The Explorers Guild, Costner and Jon Baird have come together once more to co-write the script.

Costner is being welcomed back to Warner Bros, after the studio was his home base for years. Warner Bros Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich is excited to partner with Costner again after his long return to directing. Costner last directed Open Range in 2003. “Kevin’s ambitious vision for this story is the perfect crystallization of his affinity for the American West and passion to bring this turning point in its history to life with all the human drama, cultural complexity and immense scope that it merits.”

Horizon does not have a cast list out, but is sure to have a strong cast. The film is looking at a late-summer start.
