Keith Stanfield Joins Thriller ‘Death Note’

According to TheWrap, Keith Stanfield (War Machine) is now confirmed to join the cast of Adam Wingard’s adaptation of Death Note.

The project, recently acquired by Netflix, already has its lead star in Nat Wolff (Paper Towns), with Margaret Qualley (The Nice Guys) also on board.

Death Note originally started as a Japanese manga magazine series in 2003 written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. It has since been adapted as a television anime series as well as live action films in Japan. The story centers on a student who stumbles upon a supernatural notebook that grants its user the ability to kill anyone simply by writing their name. A police detective begins to catch on and engages in a hot pursuit of the student.

Jeremy Slater (Fantastic Four) wrote the most recent draft of the adaptation. Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jason Hoffs and Masi Oka will produce. Executive producers are Doug Davison and Brian Witten.

Stanfield was lauded for his performance opposite Academy Award winning actress Brie Larson (Room) in the indie Short Term 12. He was in last year’s hit Straight Outta Compton as Snoop Dogg and will be seen next in Oliver Stone’s Snowden which is currently in post-production.
