Jodie Comer To Join Joaquin Phoenix in Ridley Scott’s ‘Kitbag’ For Apple Studios

After their latest collaboration in The Last Duel, Ridley Scott is set to work again with Killing Eve star Jodie Comer again. Deadline confirms that Comer is Scott’s first choice to play Napoleon Bonaparte’s Josephine in Apple Studios’ upcoming film Kitbag. After seeing Comer’s performance in his latest project The Last Duel opposite Matt Damon, Adam Driver and Ben Affleck, Scott was blown away, and now the two are set to reunite in Kitbag.

Joaquin Phoenix is set to star in the Bonaparte role. Scott will begin directing after he finishes his MGM crime thriller House of Gucci starring Lady Gaga. Apple Studios will finance and produce the movie and Scott and Kevin Walsh will produce for Scott Free.

Kitbag’s title is from the saying “There is a general’s staff hidden in every soldier’s kitbag.” The film will tell the story of Napoleon Bonaparte’s origins and his quick, callous climb to emperor, “…viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love.” Even though the main point of the film is to highlight Napoleon’s famous battles, the love story he had with Josephine is just as important to the great military leader’s origins.

Besides The Last Duel, which will premier in October 2021, Comer is expected to shoot the fourth season of Killing Eve later this year. She will also be in 20th Century Studios action comedy Free Guy, also starring Ryan Reynolds. She is repped by WME and Independent Talent Group.

Melissa Cusano: I love to escape reality with reading, writing, movies, and music! If I'm not working I love to go to concerts (pre-covid), play video games, and hang out with my dog Ozzi.
