Jason Clarke Circles ‘Winchester’ Starring Helen Mirren

According to Variety, Jason Clarke (Everest) is in talks to join the cast of Winchester, starring Academy Award-winning actress Helen Mirren (Eye in the Sky).

The directing team of Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig are also credited with doing re-writes on the screenplay by Tom Vaughan. The story centers on Sarah Winchester (Mirren), heiress to her husband’s fortune from the Winchester Repeating Arms Company, maker of firearms. Her only child died at 9 days old and her husband died of tuberculosis at age 43. Following their deaths and haunted by the deaths of the people who died due to Winchester firearms, Sarah invests her energies into the construction of a huge mansion in an effort to keep away evil spirits. San Francisco psychiatrist Eric Price (Clarke) is sent to evaluate Sarah’s state of mind and discovers her obsessive behavior may not be insane after all.

The Spierigs said, “Jason Clarke is an extremely talented actor and we look forward to seeing him face off against Dame Helen Mirren as well as any vengeful spirits that might be lurking about the ‘Winchester’ house.”

The CBS Films thriller is being produced by Blacklab Entertainment’s Tim McGahan and Imagination Design Works’ Brett Tomberlin. Executive producers are Bullitt’s Benedict Carver, Diamond’s Daniel Diamond, Tobin Armbrust, Andy Trapani, Toni Lianos, Brian Gilbert, Marc Shipper, and Simon Oakes. Diamond Pictures is handling international sales.

Clarke has just completed filming the World War II thriller HHhH as well as the drama Mudbound. All I See Is You, in which he stars opposite Blake Lively (The Shallows), just premiered at TIFF. He is currently filming Chappaquiddick, in which the Australian-born actor headlines as Senator Ted Kennedy.
