James Gunn Reveals Lex Luthor’s Warsuit As ‘Man of Tomorrow’ Production Begins

Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor in James Gunn's 'Superman' (2025)

James Gunn’s take on Lex Luthor’s iconic warsuit has been revealed with production beginning for the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow, and it looks like Superman’s arch nemesis has few more tricks up his sleeve. Earlier today, Gunn took to Instagram to reveal the classic Luthor-green, weaponized suit worn by Nicholas Hoult. The Man of Tomorrow director wrote in the caption,

Fit check. Live from the set of Man of Tomorrow.

Lex Luthor’s warsuits are an important part of his character and his never-ending need to beat Superman. In the DC comics, Lex’s armor is equipped with the same superhuman abilities that Clark has to mimic the same physicality as him, as he believes it can be a way to best him. As it looks in Gunn’s photo, Luthor is stepping into the playing field with Superman this time instead of having pawns in place for him. It also looks as though Luthor has escaped prison and is now on an unknown sandy planet, though it is currently not known story wise how Lex will fit into the upcoming project. That being said, Lex and David Corenswet’s Superman are expected to team up for Gunn’s DC sequel, with the nemesis having to put aside their morals to fight against the intergalactic cyborg Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger.

More returning cast members from the debut DCU film includes: Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschemacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner. Another Green Lantern member will join Guy as Aaron Pierre is set to appear in the sequel, playing Jon Stewart, who we will first see this August in the HBO Max series Lanterns. Milly Alcock will also return as Supergirl in Man of Tomorrow, and her own solo film is set to release at the end of this month. Adria Arjona will also join the ensemble in an undisclosed role.

Man of Tomorrow is set to release in theaters on July 9, 2027.
