The two-time Tony Award winner, Hugh Jackman, who is the lead in the upcoming revival of the Broadway production The Music Man, announced in a brief 30-second Instagram video on Tuesday that he tested positive for COVID-19.
“I just wanted you to hear from me that I tested positive this morning for COVID. My symptoms are like a cold — I have a scratchy throat and a bit of a runny nose. But I’m fine, and I’m just going to do everything I can to get better ASAP, and as soon as I’m cleared, I’ll be back on stage heading to River City,” said the actor.
The Music Man on Broadway has been canceled for the end of the year after Jackman tested positive for COVID-19. The news of Jackman’s positive test comes just days after his co-star Sutton Foster confirmed that she also tested positive for COVID-19 on Christmas Eve in her own Instagram post shared Friday after missing a preview performance. At the time, both Broadway stars praised the company’s understudies and swings for keeping the show running despite Foster’s positive COVID test.
On its official Twitter account, the production stated Tuesday that all performances are canceled until Jan. 1. The Music Man group set to return to the Winter Garden Theater on Jan. 2. Tickets for the Christmas season performances of the musical will be reimbursed. The highly awaited revival, which was set to premiere in Sept 2020 before the pandemic shut down Broadway for months, began previews on Monday, Dec. 20, but had to cancel its Dec. 25 performance and Dec. 26 matinée due to rising COVID cases.
