Golden Globes Nominees Announced for 2021 Cermony

With the strange oddities that have occurred in 2020 for the film industry, Award season still is set to be on game despite the many adjustments being made to accommodate it in a post Covid world. Now, the Award season is going on in full throttle with the recent announcement from the Hollywood Foreign Press. As the 78th Annual Golden Globe Nominees for 2021 have been announced.

While not a very competitive year, there still were some stand out nominees in the bunch for film, with a higher number of streaming films getting recognition. Particularly Netflix, which have received 42 nominations at the Globe for both series and film, including Mank, and The Queen’s Gambit. While Amazon and Hulu also received 10 nods, including Borat Subsequent Movie Film for Amazon and Palm Springs for Hulu. Though possibly one of the biggest contributions to this year’s Globes is the fact that three female directors have been nominated for Best Director. This includes Emerald Fennell for Promising Young Woman, Regina King for One Night in Miami and Chloe Zhao for Nomadland. All of them have been nominated asides Aaron Sorkin and David Fincher, and definitely a progressive move considering how often the Globes have been criticized for exclusion of female directors in the past.

It is looking to be a fairly interesting year though at the very least a welcoming one with many nominations being very deserving. While there are still some arguing against what is and is not nominated this year, it still will a fascinating watch, especially considering this will help get a better understanding on what might be the big Oscar movie of 2020. The ceremony will premiere on February 28th 2021 on NBC and will be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
