Lord of the Rings and Green Book star Viggo Mortensen has worked with horror director David Cronenberg three times. Cronenberg is known for his iconic horror films, including Scanners (1981), Videodrome (1983) and his most mainstream film, The Fly (1986). In 2005, Cronenberg left his horror film days behind, as he and Mortensen produced thrillers A History of Violence (2005) and 2007’s Eastern Promises. Cronenberg also got in front of the camera for Mortensen’s directorial debut, playing the role of doctor in Falling, which will be released in theaters this Friday. The two are set to collaborate again in an upcoming horror flick, which Mortensen teased in an interview with GQ.
According to Mortensen, this film will be taking Cronenberg back to his roots: “Yes, we do have something in mind. It’s something he wrote a long time ago, and he never got it made. Now he’s refined it, and he wants to shoot it. Hopefully, it’ll be this summer we’ll be filming. I would say, without giving the story away, he’s going maybe a little bit back to his origins”. When GQ asked if Mortensen is referring to Cronenberg’s body horror, something that he has been known for, he responded “Yeah, it’s very interesting. It’s almost like a strange film noir story”. Not much is known about the plot of the film yet, but if Cronenberg is going back to his roots, it is expected to be nothing short of excellent.
