GKids And Warner Bros. Discovery Renew Deal To Make Max Home Of ‘Boy And The Heron’ And Other Ghibli Titles

After winning the award for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars last Sunday, The Boy And The Heron is confirmed to be coming to Max for streaming. A specific date has not yet been announced.

On top of streaming the film, a deal renewal between Warner Bros., Discovery, and GKids revealed that Max will remain the exclusive streaming home of Studio Ghibli’s titles for years to come.

GKids saw massive success with the distribution of The Boy And The Heron last year, marking the most lucrative release in their 16 years of business.

Variety reports that the exact details of the agreement have not yet been released.

The Boy And The Heron was the latest film from animation legend Hayao Miyazaki. Since the start of his directorial career, Miyazaki has been responsible for countless beloved films, such as Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro.

The Vice President of content acquisition, Elizabeth Bannan Atcheson, said, “our subscribers are always looking for unique stories, and we are happy to continue to offer these award-winning, critically acclaimed films and to add The Boy and the Heron to our deep and rich Max content offering.”

GKids also revealed that following the film’s win at the Academy Awards, The Boy and The Heron will soon see a theatrical re-release.
