George Miller’s ‘Mad Max’ Spin-off ‘Furiosa’ Finds Anya Taylor-Joy in the Title Role with Chris Hemsworth, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II

Deadline reports that the long anticipated spin-off to 2014 Best Picture Nominee Mad Max: Fury Road entitled Furiosa is in advanced development at Warner Bros, but it seemingly has recast Charlize Theron and added Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

Glass and Thoroughbreds star Anya Taylor-Joy is set to take on the role of the one handed badass stand out of ‘Fury Road.’ In addition, ‘Thor’ himself, Chris Hemsworth, and (spoilers for Watchmen) Dr. Manhattan himself, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II are along for the high octane adventure.

The film is somewhat of a bygone era in the fact that it is said to be a prequel origin story to Furiosa, akin to the X-Men Origins franchise that failed after 2009’s Wolverine film. However, George Miller is set to direct and co-write and produce with long time partner Doug Mitchell. So this film is certainly in good hands.

No word yet if Theron will return in any way, but seeing as she was one of the most exciting parts of the previous film, hopefully she will return in some regard. Theron also voiced her dismay at not being brought on for a prequel in an interview earlier this year, saying “I really love that character, and I’m so grateful that I had a small part in creating her. She will forever be someone I think of and reflect on fondly.”

No release date or production date is set.
