Gabrielle Union and Taraji P. Henson Partner With Gamechanger Films to Adapt Graphic Novel ‘Sorcerority’

According to Deadline, the fantasy graphic novel Sorcerority by Mikhail Sebastian and George Watson is getting a movie adaptation.

And guess which two famous actors are going to make it happen?

Gabrielle Union’s I’ll Have Another Productions and Taraji P. Henson’s TPH Entertainment will partner with Effie T. Brown’s Gamechanger Films to produce Sorcerority. Gamechanger Films acquired the rights to the graphic novel earlier this year.

Sorcerority depicts the narrative of Melanie, a young African-American girl who, like her late mother, enrolls at a historically African-American coven and magic institution.  She quickly finds that her admission was not completely her choice but rather the deliberate acts of a higher authority. In between classes, she learns about her family’s link to the school’s enigmatic past, as well as her essential position in its future.

“Taraji and I have been looking for a project to work on together for a few years now, and I’m excited to be partnering with her, TPH Productions, and Gamechanger Films on this project. I’m looking forward to bringing this graphic novel to the big screen,” said Union.

Brown added: “I could not have imagined a better equipped or more inspiring dream team of female producing partners than Gabrielle and Taraji on a project about such powerful black women. Sorcerority’s depiction of black girl magic and sisterhood offers such a fresh and unexpected perspective, and we can’t wait to bring Mikhail and George’s beautiful graphic novel to life.”

Gamechanger Films’ most recent project with A24 is Elegance Bratton’s The Inspection that will star Union and Jeremy Pope.
