According to Deadline, Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker (Southpaw) is set to star opposite Johnny Depp (Alice Through the Looking Glass) in Brad Furman’s LAbyrinth. The drama centers on the investigation into the murders of rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious BIG in the mid-1990s. Depp plays an LAPD detective who is unable to solve the murders. Whitaker will play a journalist who teams with Depp in his mission to find out the truth. The story was adapted by Christian Contreras from Randall Sullivan’s novel.
The feature is being produced by Miriam Segal and her Good Films label, Open Road, Films and Miramax. Open Road has distribution rights.
Whitaker can be seen currently in theaters in Arrival starring 5-time Academy Award nominee Amy Adams (American Hustle) and Jeremy Renner (Captain America: Civil War). He will appear in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which opens on December 16th, and will star as Bishop Desmond Tutu in the biopic The Forgiven alongside Eric Bana (The Finest Hours). Whitaker has wrapped up filming of Burden, drama based on a true story about the KKK. He will also appear in Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther for Marvel, set to open in February 2018.
