First Trailer for New Live-Action Animation Hybrid ‘Tom and Jerry’ Film

It was only a matter of time for one of the most iconic cartoon duos would have some sort of comeback in the modern film era. That’s right, Tom and Jerry are returning in an all new film. This time, they are coming to the real world in a new live action film from Ride Along director Tim Story. Warner Bros release the first official trailer for the new cartoon adaptation

The film centers on Tom and  Jerry of course and this time they’re in New York at one of the finest hotels there. The downside is that their typical cat and mouse chase at this hotel is happening during a huge wedding ceremony. With the crew being aware of their antics, it’s up to a young wedding planner (Chloe Grace Mortez) to stop their ongoing feud. The trailer showcases a lot of wacky over the top violence that Tom and Jerry have been known for including but not limited to a chase with animated elephants and Tom even trying to imitate Batman at one point

Unlike films like Alvin and the Chipmunks and Yogi Bear however, the cat and mouse rivals are still going to retain their hand drawn look as this new film is going to be a animated hybrid. The leading characters are looking more stylized in their appearance as opposed to a more realistic look other live action hybrid films had. Already this film has more of an appeal for animation fans with them still intriguing a 2D appearance for these classic characters. While some might be unsure if a new movie with these characters will still be good considering live action hybrid films aren’t the best received and Tom and Jerry themselves have had a mixed track record for movies, the return of these characters and the stylized look will definitely make this film be one of the big ones to look out for in 2021.

Tom and Jerry is set for release on March 5th 2021.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
