‘Dumb and Dumber To’ Hits New Setback as Warner Bros. Drops Project

Audiences will not be getting more Dumb and Dumber anytime soon, as Warner has pumped the brakes on the in-development sequel, Dumb and Dumber To. This comes despite the attachment of original stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, not to mention the earnest desire of writer/director brothers Bobby and Peter Farrelly. The project will now be shopped to other studios, and quite honestly it’s hard to believe someone won’t pick this up. The original 1994 comedy was wildly successful, perhaps springboarding off positive Carrey buzz – Ace Ventura and The Mask hit theaters earlier that year.

It’s hard to say Carrey’s star has done anything but shine brighter since then. The star of The Truman ShowBruce Almighty, and many, many others is most recently off a highly praised role in The Incredible Burt Wonderstone and will appear later this year in both Kick-Ass 2 and Anchorman: the Legend Continues. His attachment to Dumb and Dumber To has to have some Warner Bros. rivals chomping at the bit.

Bobby and Peter Farrelly, directors of ‘Dumb and Dumber’ who will also direct ‘Dumb and Dumber To’ it the project ever makes it out of development.

Jeff Daniels, meanwhile, has been hard at work starring in Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom. He also appeared in last year’s Looper, and while his career has taken a decidedly more dramatic bent than Carrey’s, fans are certainly excited for Daniels to have a chance to break out his comic chops.

If the film does manage to get made, fans will be treated to the story of Harry and Lloyd searching for Harry’s illegitimate daughter, with the hopes that she will be able to donate him a kidney.
