‘Duke Nukem’ Movie In Development By ‘Cobra Kai’ Creators

Duke Nukem is an immortal classic of 90s gaming that has played dormant after the disastrous two-decade development hell that resulted in Duke Nukem Forever, released in 2011. However, the recent success of films based on 90s games such as Sonic and Detective Pikachu combined with the success of more adult-centered films like Deadpool is a winning formula that took over cinemas and one of the first streaming successes with last summers Mortal Kombat.

So it seems only logical to have a Duke Nukem revival. It seems that the team behind Cobra Kai thinks that it’s about time for the 80s action star parody to have his own film. The producers of Cobra Kai have decided to latch on to the film’s producers with Legendary Entertainment behind the picture as producers as well. Legendary Entertainment has been a big box office blockbuster with recent films such as Dune giving them the credibility that Gearbox Software is looking to hand the film rights off.  Assassins Creed film producers Marla Studios is also behind the picture, lending even more credibility to the video game adaptation.

The search for a writer to tackle the material is underway, as is the search for stars. But the film getting the green light is an unrestrained positive to those who were disappointed by the game’s last entry in the series.
