Disney is already getting its hands dirty as the studio announced today that the upcoming streaming service Disney+ will be the first division to tinker with the newly-acquired Fox film library according to Deadline.
Studio head Bob Iger discussed with the media that Home Alone, Night at the Museum, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Cheaper By the Dozen will be among several Fox properties that will be looked at and potentially revisited in the form of a sequel, remake or reboot. Iger simply said that the films will be “re-imagined” for “a newer generation.”
Aside from those aforementioned projects, Avatar, Planet of the Apes, X-Men, and Deadpool are among the other Fox IP being viewed by the studio that will be utilized by Disney+ and Hulu.
Disney previously confirmed that the renowned Lady and the Tramp will receive live action/CGI remake for Disney+ with Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux voicing the titular characters. The film will be released this November.
By the end of 2019 which will serve as the launch date for Disney+, the streaming service will house approximately more than 7,500 television episodes and 400 films. Disney is in the midst of removing its programming from other services such as Netflix and Amazon.
