After a long wait, Director James Wan finally revealed the official title of the upcoming Aquaman 2 film in a social media post on Thursday. Wan posted a close-up shot of a screen, with a caption that reads “The tide is rising.” Wan then announced that the title of Aquaman 2 will be called Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
The image appears to have been taken at a production meeting for Aquaman 2, since a subsequent photo shows a masked James Wan sitting at a table with a name tag placed nearby. This means that the film is officially in production.
The plot of the much-anticipated sequel has been kept under wraps at the moment, but the official title does give DC fans some hints at the tales of Aquaman and Atlantis. When Wan announced the title, he started to trend on Twitter and fans of the franchise and DC started sharing their excitement on the social media platform.
Jason Momoa will be returning to reprise his role as Arthur Curry (Aquaman), with Amber Heard also expected to return as Mera. It is surprise to many that Heard is still set to star in the film, as she went through an extremely controversial domestic abuse case involving Johnny Depp. Both actors have alleged abuse against each other in the past, which even led to rumors that Heard had been fired from her Aquaman 2 role, especially since Depp had been asked by Warner Bros. to step down from the role as Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts franchise.
