Diane Kruger, known for her main roles in the National Treasure franchise and Inglorious Basterds, is the latest actress to join the upcoming Robert Zemeckis film which is currently untitled. The new movie will be roughly based on the 2010 documentary Marwencol, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Zemeckis, the critically acclaimed director behind the widely popular Back to the Future franchise and the Academy-Award winning Forrest Gump (he took home the Best Director prize for that film) began developing the project around two years ago under his production company ImageMovers. The film will focus on a man who has been assaulted, and proceeds to cope with the pain by building a scaled-down World War II-era town in his backyard.
Kruger will be joined by the likes of Steve Carell (The Office, The Big Short), Janelle Monae (Moonlight, Hidden Figures), Leslie Mann (How to be Single, Mr. Peabody and Sherman), Falk Hentschel (Transcendence, White House Down), and Eiza Gonzalez (From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, Baby Driver). The film is being co-written by Zemeckis and Caroline Thompson (Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas) and will be produced by Cherylanne Martin (The Walk, Flight) and ImageMovers, specifically Zemeckis, Steve Starkey, and Jack Rapke. The untitled project is currently slated for a 2018 release.
Kruger won the Best Actress prize at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival for her performance in Fatih Akin’s In the Fade.
