D.J. Caruso in Talks to Direct ‘G.I. Joe 3’

I Am Number Four director D.J. Caruso is in talks to direct the third entry in the G.I. Joe franchise according to The Hollywood Reporter. Caruso is no stranger to action films, having previously directed such titles as Disturbia (2007), Eagle Eye (2008), and I Am Number Four (2011).

Caruso is the third director to be up for the sequel. Jon M. Chu, who directed the last entry, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, left the project to direct Jem and the Holograms. James Bond veteran Martin Campbell (Goldeneye, Casino Royale) was in talks for a while but a deal never materialized.

There’s no word on whether Dwayne Johnson (San Andreas) or Bruce Willis (Bandits) will return to their roles. Channing Tatum starred in the first two films, but his character was killed off in the last film. No plot details have been released.

Caruso is currently filming the thriller The Disappointments Room with Kate Beckinsale and will follow that up with the horror movie Selling Time. He’s also directing the the adaptation The Tribes of Palos Verdes starring Jennifer Garner. No release date has been set for G.I. Joe 3.
