Could 90’s Movie ‘Hackers’ Get a Sequel?

Since its release 25 years ago the movie Hackers has achieved a status as a cult classic movie thanks to its campy 90’s charm. The plot of Hackers follows a group of well hackers of course who must use their amazing 90’s hacking skills in order to save the world from an evil computer virus, or in other words they must ‘hack the planet.’

Since the movie was about hackers most of the characters went by ‘super cool’ hacker names. For example the film’s protagonist, who was played by Jonny Lee Miller, went by aliases Zero Cool/Crash Override, and his love interest Acid Burn was played by a young Angelina Jolie. Other characters in the movie included The Phantom Phreak who was played by Renoly Santiago, Lord Nikon who was played by Laurence Mason, and Cereal Killer, played by future Shaggy actor Matthew Lillard. Fisher Stevens of Short Circuit fame played the villainous hacker The Plague.

Recently the movie’s director, Iain Softley, participated in an extensive interview about Hackers, and according to Collider Softley mentioned that there is a strong possibility the movie would be getting some sort of sequel or possibly even a reboot or remake. Since the internet has changed drastically since the 1995 it is unknown what a new Hackers movie will look like. What we do know is that we must Hack the Planet!
