‘Colette’ Writer Rebecca Lenkiewicz to Pen Screenplay About Weinstein Investigation

The #MeToo Movement will see its first motion picture depiction as Rebecca Lenkiewicz, the screenwriter and playwright responsible for slew of critically-adored independent films including Colette, Ida, and Disobedience, will tackle the script on the Harvey Weinstein scandal. Specifically how the investigations of New York Times reporters Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey broke the news to the world and sparked an international movement that inspired dozens more women in Hollywood to speak up about their experiences.

News on the film was announced last year when renowned indie drama film companies Annapurna and Plan B acquired the rights to the story, as arranged by Anonymous Content. The article, which was published almost exactly two years ago, unveiled a laundry list of sexual assault and sexual harassment allegations against the Weinstein Company head that dated back decades. The article included important details such as hush money payments that covered up Weinstein’s wrongdoings against an array of actresses. The article would go on to serve as a catalyst for the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements later that year, which have led to ongoing movements to reform the film industry and make all workplaces safer for women.

No further cast or crew announcements have been made yet, but it is said to follow the structure of an investigative procedural that takes the women on a wild goose chase unraveling the complex webs of lies and scandals as they gather information for the article.

The news was first reported by Variety.
