For anyone needing some post-Oscar news that’s not disappointing – look no further! This year’s Academy Award winner for Best Picture, CODA, is returning to UK cinemas following its momentous win!
CODA, starring Emilia Jones, will enjoy its limited victory lap with open captions, so the film is accessible to the community of people represented on screen. The decorated Apple TV+ film also receives a limited theatrical re-release in the United States at over 600 theaters.
The film has dominated award shows this season winning everything from WGA and SAG awards to BAFTAs and Oscars, which is all kinds of unprecedented for a predominately deaf cast and, with seemingly one swing, is smashing down walls. In fact, one of its cast members, Tony Katsur, has become the first deaf supporting actor to win a Critic’s Choice award, an Oscar, a BAFTA, a SAG award, and a Film Independent Spirit award.
The director and writer of the film, Sian Heder, should be nothing less than proud of Katsur’s work and his cast’s work on this project, even if at what is historically the most coveted night in film, CODA was overshadowed by the inappropriate behavior of other attendees.
Everyone in the US and UK who missed CODA on its original stay in theaters – or just wants to see the soul-deep story again – can do a quick Google search to find a theater near them participating in the re-release.
