The story, which is based on a book, follows a washed-up horse breeder and onetime rodeo star who takes a job from his ex-boss to bring the man’s son home and away from his alcoholic mom. Traveling across rural Mexico on their way back to Texas, the two face an unexpectedly challenging journey in which the old rider finds a sense of redemption through teaching the boy what it means to be a good man. The New York Times described the story as a morality tale about two characters who help each other through a tough transition.
Sources say that the film doesn’t have a formal greenlight, but based on the timeline of Eastwood’s other projects, insiders say that the film could be released by next winter.
The last time that Eastwood directed and starred in a film was in The Mule, which came out in 2018. The film was received well by both critics and audiences, with many praising Eastwood’s performance. More recently, he directed Richard Jewell, a film based on the Centennial Olympic Park bombing in 1996.
