Brendan Fraser Will Reportedly Play Villainous Role in ‘Batgirl’ Movie

Rumor has it that Brendan Fraser will possibly be joining the DCEU in a villainous role in Warner Bros and DC Films’ Batgirl. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but sources believe that Fraser will play the supervillain Firefly, a psychopath with a penchant for pyrotechnics, in the upcoming Batgirl starring Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl.

The latest cast member to join the film was Jacob Scipio in an unknown role. J.K. Simmons will be reprising his role as Commissioner James Gordon. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the directors of Bad Boys for Life, are directing Batgirl.

The film will premiere exclusively on HBO Max, making it one of the first big live-action DC properties to do so. Kristin Burr (Cruella) produced the film, which was written by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey).

While story specifics are still being kept under lock and key, it is known that Barbara Gordon, Commissioner Gordon’s daughter, will be the figure behind the cape in this rendition. Barbara Gordon is the most well-known incarnation of the Batgirl character, having initially appeared in 1961 comic as Bette Kane, who assumed the role of Flamebird.

Fraser currently voices a character on the HBO Max superhero DC TV series Doom Patrol. He has also just landed the lead role in Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming film The Whale. He is also set to star in Martin Scorsese’s Killer of the Flower Moon that stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.
