Bradley Cooper Attached to Star in Astronaut Drama ‘Deeper’

According to TheWrap, thrice-Oscar nominated actor Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) is now attached to star in Deeper, a new project from Phantom Four and Addictive Pictures.

Max Landis’ spec script is currently a hot bidding item among several studios. The versatile young screenwriter, known for his 2012 breakout script Chronicle, has since gone on to write Me Him Her (also his directorial debut), the action comedy American Ultra starring Jesse Eisenberg (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), and the thriller drama Victor Frankenstein starring James McAvoy (X-Men: Days of Future Past) and Daniel Radcliffe (What If). His romantic comedy Mr. Right, directed by Paco Cabezas (Rage) and starring Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect 2) and Sam Rockwell (Laggies) is due out on April 8th. Netflix recently won an intense bidding war for his spec script Bright. Landis is co-penning the screenplay for Lionsgate’s Power Rangers, due out next year.

Deeper follows the story of a disgraced astronaut who embarks on a mission to reach the bottom of a newly-discovered oceanic trench, possibly the lowest point on Earth. The mission turns out to be fraught with danger as he finds himself in a physical and psychological battle against mysterious forces.

Kornél Mundruczó will helm the project. The Hungarian-born director is known for White God, his acclaimed drama about a girl forced to give up her mixed-breed dog, which premiered at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. Landis will produce alongside David Goyer and Kevin Turen of Phantom Four, and Russell Ackerman and John Schoenfelder of Addictive Pictures.

Cooper recently starred in John Wells’ Burnt, Cameron Crowe’s Aloha and David O. Russell’s Joy. He will be seen next in Todd Phillips’ War Dogs which he also produced, due out this summer. Additionally, he has recently provided voice work on 10 Cloverfield Lane, A Dog’s Purpose and Guardians of the Galaxy. He will again lend his voice as Rocket the Raccoon in next year’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Deeper is expected to start shooting in the first half of next year.
