Box Office Success of ‘Uncharted’ May Lead to Sequel

In an interview with Deadline’s podcast Hero Nation, the director of Uncharted, Ruben Fleischer, said in an interview with Deadline’s podcast Hero Nation that he “hopes” to direct a sequel to the film. Fleischer mentioned that Sony is a careful company that wants to know how films are received before green-lighting them.

Uncharted was released in theaters on February 18th, 2022. The film stars Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Victor “Sully” Sullivan. The duo embarks on an adventure to find the lost treasure of Magellan. The box-office success of Uncharted in its first weekend is good news. The film made $51 million in its first weekend. The film’s success is likely due to the popularity of its lead, Holland, who is also known for his role as Spider-Man in the MCU. The film’s action sequences amounted to a large budget, which means the film will have to sell even more tickets in order to make a profit. Uncharted set up a potential sequel in its after-credits scene, which showed Holland and Wahlberg’s characters working together on some sort of new quest.

With a possibility of a sequel, it is possible to think that Uncharted could become a franchise with an extended universe moving forward. It is currently not confirmed at this time if Uncharted will be receiving a sequel, but the box office success of the film makes a sequel a possibility.
