According to Deadline, Aubrey Plaza is set to star in new Netflix comedy titled Hope, which will be directed by The Breaker Upperers co-writers and stars Jackie van Beek and Madeleine Sami. The film’s plot has yet to be been disclosed, but writing the script are comedy duo Karen McCullah and Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith, both of whom have written classics such as She’s the Man, Legally Blonde, 10 Things I Hate About You, and The House Bunny.
McCullah and Smith will executive produce along with Adam Wagner. Aubrey Plaza will serve as one of the film’s producers alongside Michael Costigan, Jason Bateman, Lundi Shackleton, and Philippe Palacios.
Recently, Plaza wrapped up filming for the meta-drama Black Bear alongside actors Christopher Abbott and Sarah Gadon, which was written and directed by Lawrence Michael Levine. Her other recent film roles include 2017’s Ingrid Goes West, which won a Film Independent Spirit award for Best First Feature and 2019’s Child’s Play, a reboot of the classic 1988 film featuring the evil killer doll named Chucky.
Currently, there’s no information as to when filming for Hope will begin or the film’s eventual release date. However, based on the screenwriters past experience and Plaza’s comedic genius in Parks and Recreation, it’s a safe bet that this film will surely have us laughing.
