The Marvel/Sony project Spider-Man: Far From Home is predicted to become the highest-grossing film for Sony, beating Skyfall’s $1.108B tomorrow with $1.109B. Skyfall is the third Daniel Craig as James Bond film and came out in 2012. It held the title that Spider-Man: Far From Home is soon to be known for.
Far From Home has had a strong box office draw since it premiered on July 2nd in the United States and has been released in a record-breaking 63 markets for Sony. Currently it is the highest grossing worldwide-released Spider-Man film out of all the previous Spider-Man films which started in 2002 and starred Toby Maguire as the eponymous character. It is the only film of the franchise to hit the $1B mark and is the only non-Disney film to reach that number this year.
Far From Home stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man who tries to resume normal teenage life after the events of the “blip” and destruction that happened during Avengers: Endgame. Peter goes on school trip to Europe but is called by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to aid new hero Mysterio, played by Jake Gyllenhaal to defeat Elementals that pop up across the globe. Also starring are Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau, Jacob Batalon, and Zendaya, the latter of whom has gotten an unending stream of praise for her new starring role in the HBO series Euphoria.
Far From Home was directed by Jon Watts, who directed the first film of the rebooted film series Spider-Man: Homecoming, and was written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommer.
