The winners for the 2025 Dorian Film Awards were announced on Thursday, and Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance dominated the field of nominees, winning a total of five awards, including Film of the Year.
The Substance follows the life of a celebrity (Demi Moore) whose relevance and beauty has faded, leading her to inject herself with a substance that is promised to create a younger, better version of herself. It was nominated in eight different categories and took home the gold in five of them, including Film of the Year, Director of the Year, Film Performance of the Year, Genre Film of the Year, and Campiest Flick. Demi Moore also won the Timeless Star (Career Achievement) Award, which honors an “exemplary career marked by character, wisdom, and wit.”
The 16th annual Dorian Awards were presented by GALECA, the Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics, which consists of hundreds of career journalists who write on film, TV, and broadway for numerous global media outlets. The Dorian Awards, “toast the finest in movies, TV and the New York stage, from mainstream to queer/trans content,” as described on their official site.
Jane Schoenbrun’s A24 film, I Saw the TV Glow, received the most nominations at nine, but only won two: LGBTQ Screenplay of the Year and LGBTQ Film of the Year. Challengers and Will & Harper also received two wins each, with Challengers being honored for Screenplay of the Year and Film Music of the Year, and Will & Harper winning LGBTQ Documentary of the Year as well as Documentary of the Year.
“In our 16th year, GALECA’s members still have wicked fun toasting their favorites in film both mainstream and LGBTQ-themed,” said group president Walt Hickey, per Deadline. Members of GALECA are scheduled to toast the winners and nominees at a brunch on Feb 16.
